Last week Oscar De La Hoya, president for Golden Boy Promotions, spoke about a possible Manny Pacquiao trilogy fight for Juan Manuel Marquez, if the Mexican star looks good in his rematch with Juan Diaz on July 31. Marquez went to a draw with Pacquiao in the first fight in 2004. A lot of the ringside press scored the fight for Marquez in the rematch, but it was Pacquiao who walked away with a close split-decision win.

According to a report in NotiMex, Marquez's trainer and manager Nacho Beristain has concerns over the weight limit. Marquez has fought once above the lightweight division limit of 135. Last year he moved up to welterweight to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and was dominated for twelve rounds. Afterwards Marquez and his trainer blamed the weight. They said the weight was too much too carry on the frame of Marquez and the Mexican star was too small to compete against welterweights.

For the Diaz rematch they are returning to the lightweight division. Pacquiao is the WBO welterweight champion and earlier this year his trainer Freddie Roach said they are not taking any fights below 147. There is less concern from Marquez's camp on fighting Amir Khan for his WBA title at junior welterweight. In beating Diaz, Marquez will become a serious consideration to challenge Khan in December.
