Well known trainer Jose Bonilla of Puerto Rico, who handles such fighters like Edison Miranda, Carlos Quintana and others, says Manny Pacquiao will not be an easy fight for WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Prior to Pacquiao's win over Ricky Hatton last weekend in Las Vegas, Bonilla thought Cotto would win easy. After Manny stopped Ricky in two rounds, Bonilla's opinion began to change.
"Before the fight with Ricky Hatton, I thought Cotto would kill Pacquiao, but after watching that performance, we have to accept that the Filipino is in a different league. Not only is he one of the best around today, he is one of the best ever. His first championship was at 112 pounds and he moved all the way up there and won," Bonilla told Primera Hora.
Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, is interested in matching them if Cotto beats Joshua Clottey on June 13. Bonilla still gives Cotto the edge to win.
"[Cotto will win] but it will not be so easy, especially if they are fighting at a weight below 147-pounds, although I do not know how much of an effort Cotto will have to make in order to drop those pounds. I give him a good shot but Cotto has to put together a good tactical plan and use all of his resources, because Pacquiao has a tough style and is very fast," Bonilla said.
