A few days ago, BoxingScene.com reported that former heavyweight and cruiserweight champion David Haye was interested in facing current WBC king Deontay Wilder. Haye stated that he didn't have any interest in fighting domestic rival Tyson Fury. He was scheduled to face Fury on two separate dates and both fights fell through when Haye withdrew with injury.
Haye has been inactive since his knockout victory over Dereck Chisora in 2012. Because of that inactivity - the uncle and trainer of Tyson, Peter Fury, says the two-division champion has done absolutely nothing to skip ahead of the line of worthy contenders who are waiting for a crack at Wilder.
"What we have there is David Haye trying to gate-crash and cherry pick his way to the top," Peter Fury said on Buncey's Boxing Podcast. "You know he's no longer the big superstar he thinks he is, and the world needs to know, he bottled it with Tyson, we saw it with Klitscho too, he ran away from him and blamed it on his toe.
"It's a man's sport and we're fighting, don't listen to the crap that comes out of his mouth. It's useless, someone who wants to fight for the money, but when you're up against it, you do a runner. That's how we look at him. He's a pretty boy and it's the actions of a fool and they want him to go straight to the top, and get a world title shot? It's absolute crazy, he wants to stay retired."
