Ricardo Salas came in under the weight for the 10-round welterweight fight that headlines Saturday’s ProBox TV card, but his opponent Kent Cruz came in well over the limit.
Salas, 20-2-2 (15 KOs), checked in at 145.2lbs, while Cruz, 17-1-3 (11 KOs), tipped the scale at 150.6 – more than three pounds over the 147lbs limit. As a result, the vacant IBF North America title that is at stake will now only be available for Salas in the event that he wins.
The 26-year-old Salas of Mexico City is riding a two-fight winning streak which includes a third round knockout of Roiman Villa in September on the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga undercard.
Cruz, 32, of St. Louis has a nearly four-inch height advantage and is one fight removed from his only loss, a first round KO inflicted by Gary Antuanne Russell in August 2023.
In the co-main event, Mykquan Williams, 22-0-2 (11 KOs), came in just under the junior welterweight limit at 139.6lbs, while Antonio Moran, 30-7-1 (21 KOs), weighed in at 140.2lbs. The Hartford, Connecticut native Williams, who turns 27 the day after the fight, has stopped his past three opponents since being held to a draw against Paulo Cesar Galdino in June 2023. Moran, 32, of Mexico City has fought just about everyone around the lightweight division, including Andy Cruz, Arnold Barboza Jnr, Devin Haney and Jose Pedraza.
Williams-Moran is scheduled for 10 rounds for the WBO International belt.
Rounding out the main portion of the card, Jonathan “Geo” Lopez, 17-0 (12 KOs), of Orlando, Florida came in at 131.6lbs, while Rene Alvarado, 34-15 (22 KOs), of Managua, Nicaragua was slightly lighter at 131.2lbs for their 10-round fight.
