Those close to the situation have informed BoxingScene that Oscar De La Hoya is not ready to hang up those gloves just yet. Oscar is going to wait until the aftermath of the Ricardo Mayorga-Felix Trinidad fight in two weeks. Should Trinidad win as most experts expect, De La Hoya will be in line to make another 20 million dollar payday with a huge pay per view rematch with Trinidad. Should Trinidad lose his bout with Mayorga, look for Oscar to get in line for the winner of November's Winky Wright-Shane Mosley rematch.
Oscar would love to end his career by beating the man who has two victories over him. The odds for Mosley beating Wright in the rematch are very slim but there is plenty of money in a bout with Wright as the promoters can sell it with the storyline of Oscar facing the man who beat the man that beat him twice, twice.
Bernard Hopkins on the other hand is looking towards a different path. Hopkins is near the end of his career and the fight he wants most is almost within his grasp, a lucrative big money rematch with Roy Jones Jr. Hopkins will sit down with Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum to map out what will be the final fights of his career as Hopkins plans to retire before he turns 41.
Roy Jones has already gone on the record to say that he is willing to move down to 168 pounds in order to face Hopkins. While Jones said he will first beat Glen Johnson, then Tarver and then face Hopkins, insiders have said that Jones will go a different route. Insiders say that Jones will shoot straight for Hopkins after the Johnson fight and then go for Tarver in what will be his final career bout.
