Unbeaten featherweight and 2012 Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez will now face Jose Morales in a scheduled four round bout on March 16th, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told Boxingscene.com on Monday night.
The bout will take place on the undercard of the Timothy Bradley-Ruslan Provodnikov world title bout at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Valdez was originally scheduled to fight Thomas Belt (0-1), but the bout fell through. Instead, Valdez will face Morales (6-4, 1 KO), who has more fought more rounds and bouts than Belt.
Hailing from Denver, CO, Morales has lost four of his last six bouts. In his last bout on August 4th, Morales was knocked out in the third round at the hands of Saul Rodriguez.
Valdez (2-0, 2 KOs), who is managed by Frank Espinoza, stopped Corben Page in the second round of his last fight on December 7th.
HBO will televise Bradley-Provodnikov and the Wale Omotoso-Jessie Vargas fight. The premium network will likely show highlights of Valdez’s bout against Morales.
