Oscar Valdez is determined to make another featherweight fight and has asked his manager, Frank Espinoza, to pursue a clash against Carl Frampton before going up to the super featherweight division in search of another world championship in his career.
Valdez confirmed, after defeating Jason Sanchez, that he was seriously thinking about going up to 130 pounds, but that he was going to analyze his future with his team consisting of Espinoza, his father, Oscar Valdez Sr., coach Eddy Reynoso and obviously the promoter Top Rank.
"He asked me to fight with Carl Frampton, he wants that fight," Espinoza said to ESPN Deportes. "And the other option could be Josh Warrington, a unification, but the priority is Frampton."
It is no secret to anyone that Valdez struggles a bit to make 126 pounds (57,152kg), and therefore the boxer is looking to move up to 130 in search of transcending upwards and trying to position himself as one of the Top 10 fighters in the pound-for-pound rankings.
"Obviously we try to do the best for Valdez, we want him to listen to his body and where he feels better then we will look for the best opportunities, but he has told us about Frampton, it is a fight that we know that the Irishman wants and of course Oscar wants, hopefully we can achieve something," shared Espinoza.
At 28 years of age, Óscar has built a career with 26 wins and 20 knockouts, after having attended the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 and London 2012. In addition, he already has six defenses of the featherweight belt of the World Boxing Organization.
For now, Valdez rests in his native Sonora, while Frampton will fight in the month of August in US territory, according to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, and should he win, then he will seek the fight with Valdez in the last two months of 2019.
