Oscar De La Hoya has advised Ricky Hatton to continue fighting. De La Hoya promotes Hatton under his company, Golden Boy Promotions. Hatton was knocked out cold in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao last weekend in Las Vegas. De La Hoya told Hatton that he is a young fighter who can still come back from defeat.
Some will raise eyebrows at Oscar's advise. Not because the advise is right or wrong, but because a Hatton return is favorable to De La Hoya's company. Due to De La Hoya's recent retirement, Hatton is the biggest draw and moneymaker under the Golden Boy banner.
"Ricky's young, Ricky still has what it takes. He can still have a bright future. Look, I have six losses in my career. Just because you lose, it isn't the end for you. It's about how you come back. When Ricky lost to Floyd Mayweather Junior, people thought it was the end. I'm sure Ricky felt a bit depressed," De La Hoya told The Mirror.
"But he came back and beat Paul Malignaggi in some style. I was surprised how he beat Paul Malignaggi because I thought Paulie was going to give him trouble, but he cut straight through him."
