NEW YORK (AP) - Fres Oquendo returned from a two-year layoff to stop Brazil's Daniel Bispo at 1:55 of the ninth round in a scheduled 10-round heavyweight bout on Thursday.

Oquendo, from Chicago, improved to 25-3 with his 16th knockout. Bispo is 16-3.
Bispo's corner asked referee Tony Chiarantano to stop the bout even though there were no knockdowns.

Oquendo weighed in at 221 pounds (99 kilograms), one (half a kilo) more than Bispo. All three of Oquendo's losses came in heavyweight title fights with David Tua, Chris Byrd and John Ruiz.

On The Undercard:

"Chin Checker" Curtis Stevens (11-0, 10 KOs) stopped Jose Spearman (24-10-4, 10 KOs) in two rounds with a single left hook.

Giovanni Lorenzo (19-0, 11 KOs) defeated Christopher "Shaka" Henry by way of a third-round TKO.

Juan Cabrera (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped Anthony Hunter (0-2) in three rounds.

Washington Hago (2-1) blew out Cliff Walker (0-4-1) in an 82 seconds

Heavyweights Kevin Burnett and Anthony Chumah Ottah fought to a four round draw. The scores were 39-37 for Burnett, 39-37 for Ottah and 38-38 draw.
