Omar Narvaez, the former flyweight and super flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), is expecting an IBF final eliminator later this year.
This past weekend he returned to the ring and dominated Venezuelan Breilor Teran over ten rounds at the Municipal Gymnasium in the city of Trelew. The score was 100-89 on all three scorecards.
"El Huracan" Narvaez, 40-years-old, was making the first defense of the Latino bantamweight title of the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The event was promoted by OFR Promotions.
Narvaez (46-2-2 , 24 KO) won the vacant IBF bantamweight strap by scoring a technical knockout in eight rounds over Venezuelan Jesus Vargas at the New Stadium 'Aurinegro' of Puerto Madryn, Chubut on the 19th of February.
He now says the sanctioning body will get him an eliminator very soon, so he can attempt to make history for Argentina. He wants to become the first boxer from his country to win three world titles in three different weight divisions. The current IBF champion is Lee Haskins of the UK. Narvaez is ranked 5th by the IBF.
"I'm just a step and a half away from a world title eliminator. I'm ready to make history and become the first Argentine to win three world titles in different weight division," Narvaez said.
Haskins recently retained his belt with a twelve round decision over Mexico's Ivan Morales, who is the younger brother of Mexican icon Erik Morales. Narvaez is hoping to get a world title shot by the end of this year or early 2017 at the latest.
