According to Alex Morrison, manager of former champion Ricky Burns, a deal has been reached for his fighter to face ex-WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa on May 9th in Texas. Burns (37-4-1, 11KOs) vs. Figueroa (24-0-1, 18KOs) is likely going to take place at junior welterweight or a catch-weight between 135 and 140-pounds.
Figueroa was last seen in the ring in August, when he retained his WBC title by knocking out Daniel Estrada in what was his final appearance as a lightweight.
Burns snapped a two-fight losing streak last October with an eight round decision over Alexandre Lepelley.
Burns' manager told SportTimes: "Ricky will finally get his chance to fight in the United States. It is going to happen and, even though it has been moved to Texas from Las Vegas, it's still a great opportunity for him."
