Unbeaten welterweight prospect Omar Chavez (22-0, 15KOs) will hire trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning expert Alex Ariza to work his corner. The son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, wants to better himself in the ring.
Middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. hired Roach and Ariza for last month's fight with John Duddy. After watching his brother take punishment in a few of his recent wins, he became concerned and approached Omar to convince him to train with Roach and Ariza. Julio says his brother was not interested at first but changed his mind.
"I spoke with him and it seems that he could be working with Roach in a few days or weeks. We discussed it, and the truth is, this is the best thing that could happen for him," said Chavez to Virginia Vazquez.
