Six more bouts round out the first day of action in the light welterweight division. The afternoon session saw Team USA suffer its second straight loss when Jamel Herring dropped a wide decision against Kazakhstan's Daniyar Yeleussinov.

A full recap of the afternoon session can be found HERE .

On the local front, Tom Stalker of Great Britain received an opening round bye. His Round of 16 opponent will be Manoj Kumar of India, who won a 13-7 verdict over  Turkmenistan's  Serdar Hudayberdiyev.

The bout was a tactical affair throughout, yet well-received by the enthusiastic crowd on hand Kumar enjoyed a lead after every round and pulled away for good in the final three minutes of action.

Anthony Yigit of Sweden posted the final win of the evening, grinding out a 13-9 victory over Francisco Vargas of Puerto Rico. Yigit advances to the Sweet 16, where he faces number-two seed Denys Berinchyk, the power-punching Ukraine product who took 2nd place in the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships.

Jeffrey Horn kept positive momentum going for a hungry Australian boxing squad, powering his way to a 19-5 win over  Gilbert Choombe of Zambia. The fight was tough to watch at times, but never stopped Horn from celebrating like he just won the lottery.

What he did get for his efforts was an invitation to the Round of 16, where he will face  Abderzarrak Houya of Tunisia. Houya truly earned his way into the next round, topping  Gaybatulia Gadzhialiyev of Azerbaijan in a 19-16 thriller.

The bout was easily the most dramatic of the day, with Houya overcoming a three point deficit to go all in for the third and final round. Gadzhialiyev did his best to preserve his lead, but suddenly found himself struggling to keep up with Houya, who went to war in outscoring his opponent 11-5 in the final three minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Richarno Colin keeps alive hope for the Mauritius Olympic boxing team - only two fighters deep to begin with - after a 16-10 win over  Abedelhak Aatakni of Morocco. Colin made waves in the 2008 Beijing Games with a major upset over Myke Carvalo (who was eliminated by U.S. welterweight Errol Spence in this year's competition) before bowing out in the Round of 16.

Colin advances just as far in this year's competition. His next opponent will be  Uranchimegiin Monke-Erdene of Mongolia, who fended off Czech Republic's  Zdenek Chladek by a score of 20-12.

The bout threatened to get ugly early, with Chladek warned for fouls. Monke-Erdene was able to settle into a groove in the second round. The fight was no longer a contest as the Mongolian piled up points while delivering a boxing lesson over the final six minutes.

Round of 16 action for the light welterweight division takes place on Saturday, August 4.
