The evening portion of the opening round for the light flyweight division is now underway. Five matches round out the division, with the earlier bouts featuring the most lopsided decision and the quickest stoppage of the 2012 Olympic boxing competition.

Neither USA or Great Britain has a horse in the race, which might be a wise decision. Light flyweight could prove to be the toughest division for debuting Olympic hopefuls to enjoy long-term success as all three medalists from the 2008 Beijing Games are back.

A full recap of the earlier portion of the light flyweight competition can be found HERE .

Aleksandr Aleksandrov of Bulgaria was the last winner in the opening round of light flyweight action. The first step in his journey wasn't remotely challenging, walking through Mozambique's Juliano Maquina in a 22-7 schooling.

Alexandrov scored standing eight counts in rounds two and three in cruising to victory. He now faces Jong-Hun Shin of South Korea, who had an opening round bye thanks to his second place finish the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships.

Kaeo Pongprayoon of Thailand delivered a high-octane performance in taking a 19-11 win over Algeria's Mohamed Flissi. It was a rare amateur bout in which the referee truly let them fight, as the third man took a pedestrian approach to a fight that featured numerous headbutts.

Nevertheless, Pongprayoon advances to the Round of 16. He will face  Carlos Quipo of Ecuador, who pulled a 16-12 win over Jose Kelvin de la Nieve of Spain in a spirited contest. Quipo played small ball, building an early lead and steadily adding to it. de la Nieve offered a strong showing down the stretch, but came up short. Spain is now out of the Olympic boxing hunt, as its lone two participants were eliminated in opening round action.

The closest Team USA had to a representative in the light flyweight division was Ohio-based Carlos Suarez, who fights for the Trinidad & Tobogo Olympic squad. It's just as well, as Suarez was sent the door courtesy of a 16-6 loss to  Ferhat Pehlivan of Turkey in an awkward and ugly bout.

Team Puerto Rico enjoyed a rare rout as Jantony Ortiz cruised to the Round of 16 with a 20-6 schooling of Ghana's Tetteh Sumenau. An 8-1 lead after the first round paved the way for a landslide win for Ortiz, who next faces idle David Ayrapetyan of Russia .

Light flyweight action resumes Saturday, August 4.
