Colombian Bonifacio Avila has passed away at the age of 75, reports ESPN.

Avilia, known as "Bony", fought in the 1972 Olympics in Munich before turning professional the following year. He would fight all over the world until he retired in 1979 with a record of 17-9-3 (14 KOs).

There are several notable names on that record including Ayub Kalule and Carlos DeLeon. Unfortunately for Avila, both were on their way up at the time of meeting him and he was stopped on both occasions. Avila also worked as a sparring partner for countryman and former middleweight champion, Rodrigo Valdez.

In retirement Avila ran a successful cafe in Cartagena. He is survived by his wife and four children.
