“A purse offer was held today at 12:00 noon at the World Boxing Council’s executive offices in Mexico City for WBC International heavyweight champion Oliver McCall’s fight against his mandatory challenger, Juan Carlos Gomez, a native of Cuba living in Germany.
“The only promoter to bid on the fight was Arena Boxing Promotions, GMBH, represented by Ahmet Oner, who presented an offer of $550,000.
“70 percent of the offer will go to the champion, McCall, which is $385,000. Gomez will receive 30 percent of the offer, which is $165,000.
“The date of the fight will be October 19 in Berlin, Germany.
“This is the highest amount ever offered for a WBC International championship, which is becoming more and more popular as a steppingstone for the WBC world championship.
“The president of the WBC International committee is Mauro Betti of Italy.”
