Manager Egis Klimas has revealed that he signed on Olympic gold medal winner Oleksandr Usyk (10-0, 9KOs) to his growing stable of fighters. Usyk is promoted by K2 Promotions.
Klimas manages several of the top Eastern European fighters in the sport - including world champions and pound-for-pound fighters Vasyl Lomachenko and Sergey Kovalev.
Last month at the Ergo Arena in Gdansk - Usyk went the distance for the first time in winning a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Krzysztof Glowacki (26-1, 16KOs) to capture the WBO cruiserweight title. The scores were 119-109, 117-111 and 117-111.
There is now talk of Usyk potentially fighting on December 10th in New York City, as part of the planned undercard for the next defense of WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.
Uysk was being fast-tracked to the belt and wanted to face the champion sooner than later. He was due to take an interim-fight to stay busy, but suffered an injury in camp. Prior to this fight, Usyk was last seen in the ring back in December when he stopped heavyweight contender Pedro Rodriguez in seven rounds.
Glowacki was a big step up in class for Usyk, who passed with flying colors. Glowacki captured the world title last August with a knockout victory over longtime champion Marco Huck of Germany. He suffered some injuries to his hand and elbow during the contest and required surgery, which led to a long recovery until he returned in April to return his title with a decision win over former world champion Steve Cunningham.
