According to Yuri Fedorov, former heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev will return in Moscow against veteran Robert Hawkins on September 6. Fedorov helped put together Maskaev's last appearance in Moscow against Peter Okhello of Uganda in December of 2006.

Maskaev is coming off a knockout loss to current WBC champion Samuel Peter. The show will be a celebration to promote boxing in the country and to plug the upcoming Amateur Boxing World Cup Tournament, scheduled to take place in Moscow from December 5 to the 15th. Maskaev actually faced and stopped Hawkins in 1995, when both fighters were only 3-0.

Fedorov told Russian news outlet Kommersant that the Maskaev-Hawkins event is said to be taking place on the Red Square with a special arena built for the show. There will be no entrance fee and 25,000 are expected to view the card. The show will be televised by a major television network in Russia and boardcast over the internet. Fedorov says the junior boxing team of Russia, who will represent the country in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, will open the show.
