York Hall, Bethnal Green, London - Ohara Davies (19-2, 14 KOs) was fortunate to win a ten round decision over former world champion Miguel Vazquez (41-7, 15 KOs)
The sole was 97-94, from the referee, for Davies.
Davies was not happy with his performance and he actually felt the score was too wide, showing disgust when the score was announced and actually raising Vazquez's hand.
This was Davies' first bout since losing a twelve round decision to unbeaten Jack Catterall last October.
Vazquez won a split decision in his last fight back in March, over Ghislain Maduma. But last December he was stopped in nine by undefeated prospect Thulani Mbenge in South Africa.
In the first half of the fight, the two boxers fought at a very slow pace, with very few punches to separate the two of them.
Around the seventh round, it wasn't clear but seemed that Davies may have suffered some sort of injury as his workrate declined. And Vazquez, sensing that something might be wrong, picked up the pace and began to come forward and throw more punches.
The saving grace for Davies, is that Vazquez was never a puncher in the lower weights and even less of a puncher at junior welterweight. Vazquez was landing some punches, but none of them were doing any damage on Davies.
Also on the card, junior welterweight contender Anthony Yigit (24-1-1, 8 KOs) continues the road back with an eight round decision over Siar Ozgul (15-4). The sole score was 78-75.
The victory was Yigit's third in a row since getting stopped by then IBF champion Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series in October 2018.
In a battle of undefeated junior welterweights, Daniel Egbunike (5-0, 3 KOs) won a ten round decision over Martin McDonagh (5-1). The sole score was 97-93.
