In a heated rematch of their December draw, lanky (6'2'') light middleweight stylist Prince Arron (18-3-1, 1 KO) outpointed rugged Jamaica-native and Birmingham resident "Mad" Max Maxwell (11-9-1, 2 KOs) over eight rounds of action at the Kingsway Leisure Centre in Widnes, Cheshire.
Arron used his long hands and speed to box off the distance, while shorter but more muscular Maxwell tried his luck on his way in. The first three rounds were in favour of better technician Arron; Maxwell connected with harder and crisper punches in the next couple of rounds but the rest of the fight was to Arron's advantage once again. There were no knockdowns, and the referee Howard John Foster, who was a sole judge for this bout awarded Arron with a well-received 78-74 score.
Former Commonwealth welterweight champion John O'Donnell upped his record to 23-1 with 11 KOs after an easy, one-sided fifth-round stoppage of Hungarian import Laszlo Robert Balogh (7-2-1, 3 KOs). Balogh was continuously outworked and finally trapped at the ropes in the fifth round without throwing any punches in return. Time of stoppage was 2:56. Mick Hennessey, O'Donnell's promoter, called for Paul McCloskey to fight him next in a post-fight quickie.
