Frank Warren recently announced that former champions Carl Frampton and Nonito Donaire will collide on April 7th in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The bout will be contested at 126 pounds and Donaire, who recently made his debut with Richard Schaefer's Ringstar Sports, is excited to face a fighter with the credentials of Frampton.
"He is an incredible fighter and I have always wanted to get in the ring with incredible guys. A lot of people are wanting to see this fight. I am ready," Donaire stated.
Frampton is also under a new deal, as he signed on with promoter Frank Warren after leaving Barry McGuigan, and the Irish star is now also being trained by Jamie Moore, after parting ways with coach Shane McGuigan.
For Donaire, this will be his first crack at a top level fighter since losing a close decision in the fall of 2016, at super bantamweight, to current WBO world champion Jessie Magdaleno.
Donaire, who moved back to 126 following the loss to Magdaleno, said that he isn’t worried about facing Frampton in his backyard and said that he is actually looking forward to it. In fact, Donaire said that he wouldn’t mind having his next couple of fights across the pond.
The 'Filipino Flash' would love to get a crack at IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, who is also promoted by Warren. Selby is first being lined up to fight his mandatory challenger Josh Warrington.
"I would love to go out there. There is a huge possibility of that. Those guys are amazing and champions. You know how I am with champions. I love to fight champions. Hopefully we can get this with Frampton and then we can go back out there and fight (Lee) Selby," Donaire told BoxingScene.com in reference to the IBF champion from Wales.
