REIGNING champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire safely arrived in San Francisco from Manila prior to his preparation for an expected difficult fight against Mexican Luis “Titi” Maldonado in Connecticut.
Coming from several weeks of training camp in Cebu province, the hard hitting 25-year-old believes he is 100% ready to defend his International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight titles on Dec. 1 at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Donaire slept and took the opportunity to rest for about nine hours during the long flight. He felt relaxed when he arrived at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with his father-trainer Nonito Sr.
On Monday (Tuesday in Manila), the Team Donaire will take another flight going to the fight venue.
Donaire will be making his initial title defense after he dethroned previously unbeaten Vic Darchinyan, an Australia of Armenian decent, with one-punch knockout win in the fifth round in Connecticut’s largest City, Bridgeport on July 7.
