The Russian boxing community mourns the death of one of its most devoted servants and popular public figures of recent times. Well-known referee, judge and TV expert Nikolay Puchkov has passed away tonight in Moscow after a lengthy battle with illness.
BoxingScene sends its deepest condolences to Nikolay Ilyich’s family members, friends and colleagues. He was 65 years of age.
Puchkov is best known for officiating a number of professional boxing matches all across the Eastern Europe. He worked both as a referee and as a judge. Puchkov was also known for his great work as a TV commentator for both Russia 2 and Eurosport TV channels. A former pugilist himself he boxed for twelve years as an amateur. Puchkov has also accomplished a notable academic career becoming a Ph.D. in chemistry and serving as a director assistant in the Institute of Physical Chemistry for Russian Academy of Sciences.
