The future of former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev (50-2, 34KOs) is still a mystery. Like a few other boxers, Valuev has pursued a career in politics. According to his promoter, Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, Valuev's boxing career is hanging on the outcome of the upcoming elections in Russia.
"It will all depend on how things will develop with his political career. He told me: 'you have to concentrate on one thing.' If he goes into politics, we will not disturb him. And if not, then Nicholas could return to boxing at any time," Sauerland told Alexander Pavlov.
Sauerland Event's General Manager, Chris Meyer, told Pavlov that Valuev's return will not be sorted out until the outcome of the elections. Valuev has been inactive since losing a twelve round decision to David Haye in November of 2009.
"We must await the outcome of the Duma elections in Russia. And then take some steps. We fully support the plans for Valuev. The main thing is that he found his path in life and moved on it. And if this path will lead him back to boxing, we will help him," Meyer said.
