Big plans are still in store for Nikita Tszyu, though there is sudden uncertainty over his immediate boxing timeline.

The unbeaten second-generation Australian boxer was involved in a car crash over the weekend, which left him injured. Full details are still forthcoming regarding the incident in question, though it was confirmed that his health is otherwise fully intact as he is on the mend.

“Nikita Tszyu was involved in a car accident over the weekend,” No Limit Boxing spokesperson Tim Ashworth told BoxingScene and other media members in a statement. “The vehicle he was travelling in was struck at an intersection.

“He sustained minor injuries and is now recovering at home with his family.”

Tszyu, 11-0 (9 KOs), hoped to get in at least one more fight in 2025, though that is now suddenly in doubt.

The 27-year-old southpaw junior middleweight from Sydney has fought just once on the year, which followed a one-year layoff due to injuries sustained in a physically taxing ninth-round win over Koen Mazoudier in August 2024 in his hometown. Tszyu returned this past August 20, where he claimed a first-round technical knockout victory over unbeaten Lulzim Ismaili, also held in Sydney.

Included on the card was middleweight contender and domestic rival Michael Zerafa, who also scored a first-round knockout. His placement on the show was by design, as No Limit planned to eventually stage a Tszyu-Zerafa clash, whether later this year or sometime in 2026.

The latter now appears to be the more likely scenario, given Tszyu’s current situation.

“A decision regarding any return to ring in 2025 will be made in the coming weeks,” confirmed Ashworth.

Tszyu is the youngest member of his fighting family. His older brother is Tim Tszyu, the former WBO junior middleweight titlist whose own career is on hold as he vowed to sit out the remainder of 2025 after a repeat defeat to Sebastian Fundora earlier this summer.

Nikita and Tim are the proud fighting sons of Kostya Tszyu, a Hall of Fame former undisputed junior welterweight champion.
