A man sent in as a tune up for the undefeated comeback kid, Juan Carlos Gomez, took Gomez out in only one round. Yamplier Azcuy (11-1-7K) defeated Juan Carlos Gomez (37-1-31K) by way of a 1st round TKO in a card held in Laredo, Texas. Gomez was stunned moments into the fight and then Azcuy unleashed an assault on Gomez which eventually prompted the ref to jump in and stop the fight. The fight barely lasted over half a round.

Gomez who has not fought in almost a year, was looked at by some as a possible fighter who could take the heavyweight division into the next era, it appears that those people were sadly mistaken. Gomez had recently won a lawsuit over Sugar Ray Leonard to get Leonard to stop telling people that he was the promoter of Gomez. Sugar Ray must be laughing his ass off right now. If Gomez would of won this fight, he could of landed a title shot within his next two fights, the heavyweight division gets worse by the month.

Eddie Sanchez (12-3-1) defeated J.C. Candelo by way of a unanimous decision in a card held in California. Sanchez took this fight on only seven hours notice. The scores were 115-112, 117-110 and 118-109.

Sanchez came out swinging from the start and pressed the action on Candelo who seemed to be surprised by the gameplan of Sanchez. Candelo caught Sanchez in the sixth round and briefly dropped him but Sanchez shook it off and continued to take the fight to Candello.
