Nicola Adams has had her dreams of a Las Vegas debut dashed –– for now.
The double Olympic gold medal winner, who clinched gongs at the 2012 and 2016 Games in London and Rio respectively, had been set to fight on the undercard of the middleweight world title showdown between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
But the showdown against Alexandra Vlajk of Hungary, at the T-Mobile Arena, was forced to be canned after the foe had an issue with her pre-fight blood test.
The news was first revealed by Dan Rafael of ESPN.
Further details regarding the next move of 34-year-old Adams, who is handled by Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, will be disclosed in due course.
"I'm devastated that I'm not boxing tonight, due to a problem with my opponent, thank you everyone for your support and kind messages," Adams wrote on Twitter.
Adams jumped at the chance to appear on the high-profile card, hoping to achieve a goal she's held since the days when she would stay up into the early hours to watch her heroes on television.
But organisers had no choice but to call off Adams' third professional bout.
The Briton had earlier spoken of the excitement of being in the boxing capital of the US.
"To be able to perform in Las Vegas on the undercard of the biggest fight of the year is an honour for me," she said.
