There was talk of former WBA featherweight titlist Nicholas Walters (26-0, 21KOs) facing Yuriorkis Gamboa and former multi-divisional champion, Nonito Donaire (35-3, 23KOs) taking on Scott Quigg in the fall. Alas, neither bout will come to fruition and with that Top Rank has to come up with dates and dance partners for both Walters and Donaire.
When it comes to Walters, Arum told BoxingScene.com - "Carl Moretti is coming up with opponents, we're discussing it with HBO. He'll definitely fight December 12th against an appropriate opponent."
And 'the Filipino Flash' could be on that same card.
"Well, it's not our call," explained Arum on Thursday morning. "If HBO suggests another co-feature we have to go along with it but in the default position is Nonito Donaire and we'd like him to face this (Cesar) Juarez kid, the number one WBO (super bantamweight) guy from Mexico in either a title eliminator or an interim title."
When asked if Matchroom Boxing (which handles Quigg) was truly serious about making the fight with Donaire, Arum insisted - "The Hearn's are good friends of ours and they don't fuck around. They were serious about doing that fight but then when they say with Quigg he wanted to so much money to make it, it was impossible to do."
