ARCHIE SHARP WILL make a first defence of his WBO European super featherweight title when he takes on the tough Scot Jordan McCorry at The O2, London on July 13.

The 24-year-old from Welling, 15-0, who memorably defeated Lyon Woodstock last October to win his first title belt, knows he will have to be at his quick-footed best to overcome a challenger who gave British champion Sam Bowen a troublesome night before succumbing to a ninth round TKO in his last fight in March.

"It is a good fight, Jordan McCorry is going to come to beat me and he is going to be fit, strong and ready," said Sharp on his slot on a blockbuster card headlined by Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman battling it out for the British heavyweight title and Joe Joyce coming up against Bryant Jennings.

"I am pretty sure he will be coming to try and rough me up, but we are prepared for all sorts of styles coming our way and I am looking forward to the fight. It will be a good win on the night for me.

"I have watched probably about a minute of his fight against Bowen to see what sort of fighter he is. Of course I would like to do a better job than Bowen because everybody wants to make big statements and I will do what I've got to do on the night.

"I think Jordan McCorry is made for a good Archie Sharp to come out and shine. I think you will see a good me and I believe his style will suit me down to a tee."

For the 28-year-old McCorry, 17-5-1, it will be a case of jumping from one big title fight to another.

"That is why you are in boxing - you want the big fights," said the native of Cambuslang. "You want to be on the big shows and top bills and this is definitely the case here.

"I think I kind of earned it when I fought Bowen. It was a good fight and I think you will see a better me this time because obviously I have had more time to prepare.

"It could have been a different story against Bowen if the referee had let it go a wee bit more, but sometimes you will get that as the away boxer.

"I definitely take a lot from the fight, I spoke to Bowen after and he is a good guy who I hope goes on to do well, but I think everybody underestimated me and thought I would just fall over.

"People saw what I am all about and they will see more this time," added the Scot, who believes he is up against a more technical opponent on July 9.

"Sharp is a better boxer, for sure. Bowen is big and strong but Sharp is a better boxer who I rate and he won the ABAs as an amateur, so he has got a good pedigree.

"Although, no disrespect to Lyon Woodstock, but he is the only guy he has fought in a hard fight and he is already talking about world titles on Twitter. I am in front of him now and I showed before that I am no mug and I am there to win the fight and that's it.

"He needs to get by me first. I just think I will be too big and too strong for him."

World title challenger Anthony Yigit (23-1-1, 8 KOs) will meet Siar Ozgul (15-3, 3 KOs) at the #MTKFightNight on June 28 at York Hall in London, on ESPN+.

The former EBU Super Lightweight king is back following a fifth-round stoppage win over Sandro Hernandez on May 4 in Frankfurt, and is looking forward to facing the Turkish-born Ozgul at the iconic British boxing venue.

“Siar is just the opponent I need to test my skill and brains in the ring,” said the 27 year-old southpaw. “He’s rough, making sure to bring the fight to you, and he’s been in the ring and gone the distance with former World Champion Viktor Postol so I’m not expecting an easy fight.

“I’m really looking forward to fighting at York Hall. I’ve watched my friends fight there before and I was so jealous of them because it’s a legendary venue with a great atmosphere. It’s almost as if it was built for boxing.”

Yigit's eight-round super lightweight clash with Ozgul is part of an ESPN+ broadcast that will also feature Ohara Davies vs. Miguel Vazquez, Chantelle Cameron vs. Anisha Basheel in a WBC World title eliminator and Ryan Walsh vs. Lewis Paulin for the British Featherweight crown.

Having impressed in his World Boxing Super Series Quarter-Final clash with Ivan Baranchyk in New Orleans, Yigit is relishing the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of an American audience again.

“The US audience has shown me lots of love following my World title fight with Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series,” he says. “Even though it didn't go my way, they made it clear they wanted to see me in the ring again, and I will make sure to show my appreciation on fight night.

“I will be preparing for this fight in Stockholm with Joel Grandel at Hammarby Boxing Club. The Hammarby sports organisation together with their soccer, ice hockey club and fans has shown me great support and I'm honoured to be one of them. I've also got Erik Skoglund on my team and he will be helping me become the best I can on fight night.”

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: "We're delighted to be working with MTK. This is a great fight for Anthony and great match up for the fans. It's going to be an explosive night at London's famous York Hall, and we're excited that American fans are going to get the opportunity to see Anthony in action on ESPN+."

Lee McGregor is confident of elevating himself to world level inside a year as he prepares to defend the Commonwealth crown on #MTKFightNight on June 22.

The talented 22-year-old bantamweight (6-0, 5 KOs) takes on fellow Scot Scott Allan (9-3-1) – live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank – and is already eyeing a clash with another compatriot in British champion Ukashir Farooq on his way to the top.

McGregor said: “It’s a dream to be headlining my own show and defending my Commonwealth title live on ESPN+.

“It’s unbelievable what MTK Global is doing for Scottish boxing but it’s not just here; it’s all over the world.

“I believe the partnership between myself and MTK Global is going in one direction and that’s right to the very top. I’m very happy now.

“My focus is well and truly set on getting myself to the pinnacle of this sport and with MTK Global behind me, I believe it’s only a matter of time.

“If it was up to me, I would fight for a world title in my next fight. That’s my mentality. I’m a born fighter. Luckily I have great people behind me so when the time’s right, I’ll be raring to go.

“Realistically, a year from now I’ll fight for a world title.”

Joining McGregor vs. Allen on an attractive card in Glasgow is the world-ranked Kieran Smith, recent world title challenger Muhammad Waseem, two-time Commonwealth medalist Reece McFadden and many more.
