CHAMBLIN AND SCYPION VICTORIOUS

Lafayette's Kasha Chamblin (119 1/2 lbs.) scored a unanimous eight round decision over Kerri Hill (124 lbs.) of Russellville, Arkansas on Saturday, August 30 at Blackham Colesium. All three judges scored the bout 80-72 for Kasha in what seems like a one sided victory. In reality the bout was very exciting as Hill refused to go down and fought back fiercely in every round. Kasha used her superior boxing skills to negate the hard charges and sometimes dirty tactis of Kerri. After a hard head butt on her nose Kasha closed the gap and pummelled Hill with devastating short punches to Hill's mid-section. The last round saw Hill, who was aware that she had to score a knockout to win, rush out of her corner behind a flurry of punches which Kasha either blocked or evaded. After Hill's initial last round onslaught Kasha quickly took total control and boxed circles around Kerri. Kasha is now 11 wins and 2 losses with 8ko's.

Wilford Scypion,Jr. of Lafayette, the son of 1980's world middleweight title challenger, Wilford Scypion was a little overanxious against his foe, one Brad Hill of Russellville, Arkansas and the ex husband of Kerri. Hill boxed very well early in the first round and had the anxious Scypion missing. A shout from his trainer Deirdre Gogarty (former Undisputed Women's World Featherweight Champion) to cut the ring off and work behind his jab calmed Wilford down and he trapped Hill in a neutral corner and dropped him with a vicious right hand. Hill arose on shaky legs as the referre tolled eight. Before Scypion could finish Hill off the bell sounded ending round one. Round two saw Scypion turn up the heat and again trap Hill in the same neutral corner and land a short left hook that dropped the off balance Hill to the canvas. Hill took the mandatory eight count from the ref and the went on a fast retreat in an effort to escape the inevitable. Scypion bided his time and manovered Hill to the ropes and dropped him like a stone to the floor for the 10 count. Wilford is now 7 wins and 0 losses with 7 knockouts.

COOK BACK KHAN TO RETURN STRONGER

Newly crowned WBO World Super-Featherweight champion Nicky Cook has backed Amir Khan to return even stronger from defeat at the hands of Breidis Prescott.

Khan was beaten in the first round by the heavy-handed Colombian at the M.E.N Arena in Manchester last Saturday night.

But Cook insists that Khan's career is just beginning - and says the 21-year-old can take heart from his own experiences.

Floored five times during a WBO World Featherweight title challenge in July last year against Steven Luevano, Cook regrouped and then returned in spectacular style to dethrone Alex Arthur at the weekend.

Cook, 28, boxed superbly to capture the world title with a unanimous points decision.

"I know the mental pain that Amir is going through because I experienced it after my loss to Luevano," said Cook.

"But I said at the time that it's not what you do when you are winning that makes you a champion, but how you react when you have lost. I was soon back in the gym and determined to get a world title around my waist and it happened on Saturday night,"

"It's great to be winning and to have a perfect undefeated record but I believe a real champion shows his class when he has lost and then comes back even stronger to prove everyone wrong and become a champion again,"

"We are involved in the cruelest, toughest and hardest sport out there and there are no hiding places in the ring."

"I know as soon as Amir gets back in the gym, he will be ever more hungrier and determined to get back to the top and show everyone what he can really do,"

"One things for sure, Amir has the fight in him as he kept getting up from the knockdowns and wanted to carry on but the referee wisely stopped it,"

"He's a very talented lad and I've no doubts that he will come back from this,"

"All the great champions experience defeat in their careers, including some of the greatest ever British champions like Nigel Benn, Barry McGuigan, and Lennox Lewis were all defeated, and Amir can draw heart from what they went through."
