New Generation Fight Promotions have their card lined up for this Saturday, February 28th with 7 bouts made and one on the burner. Rick Lopez Sr. and his son’s Devin and Ricky are back for their ‘sophomore year’ of promoting.
The main event was going to be Ricky Lopez taking on Brian Green, who pulled the plug on Monday. A replacement is being sought but the clock is ticking.
The co main, which may be elevated to the main event, will feature Manny Lopez, 7-1, 5KOs taking on Staunton, Virginia’s Christian Steele, 4-13-2, 1KO. Steele is riding a 6 fight losing streak but did manage a split decision against undefeated Naim Nelson. He will be looking for the upset. Lopez is coming in on the heels of two wins and gaining momentum. This is a six round welterweight bout.
The undercard is once again loaded with local talent. RMB’s 2014 Fighter of the Year Izaak Cardona, 10-2, 10KOs will face Cameron Allen, 6-17, 3KOs, hailing from Battle Creek, Michigan. Allen has already fought in 2015 picking up a decision win. Cardona dropped two split decisions in a row in 2014 before ‘righting the ship’ with a demolition of Zachariah Kelley in one round. One of the decision losses was to Samuel Clarkson, who just upset 27-1 Cedrick Agnew over the weekend, for some perspective. This is a six round bout at super middleweight.
Undefeated light heavyweight, Donald Cobb, 3-0, 2KOs, is back in action as he will fight a pro debutant by the name of John Skipper. David Escamilla, 5-0, 3KOs, will be in with Garden City, Kansas’ Fernando Serrano, 1-3, 1KO in a four rounder at super featherweight. Welterweight Juan ‘Chago’ Santiago, 14-12-2, 8KOs, a local fan favorite, will fight Patrick Boozer, 7-3, 2KOs, in the best matched bout of the night. Santiago has been in the best including Juan Diaz and Olympic prospect Felix Verdejo. Boozer upset an undefeated fighter in his last bout, he will want to keep winning as he has another bout scheduled just a week later. Is he overlooking ‘Chago’?
Rounding out the card is RMB’s Female Fighter of the Year Kirstie ‘Kriss-Kross’ Simmons, 6-1, 1KO. Simmons is trained by former pro heavyweight, Chris Green at the A-1 Boxing Gym in Aurora. Simmons will fight Jasmine Clarkson, 1-0, in a four rounder at featherweight. Saud Clark, 4-1-1, 3KOs, who stopped his opponent fantastically back in November will get it on with Eric Rosales, 0-2 in a four rounder at welterweight. Additionally hot featherweight prospect Chris Galvadon, 5-0, 2KOs, is also scheduled on the card.
The show is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th, at the Crown Plaza DIA, located at 15500 East 40th Avenue in Denver, Colorado. Doors open at 5:30 with the first bell at 6:30. Tickets will be available at the door or you can get reserved seating early by calling Rick Lopez at the Strictly Boxing Gym, 303-659-0192 or by visiting their website, http://www.newgenfights.com/.
