According to a report by Sowetan Sports News, welterweight prospect Bongani Mwelase (14-0, 12KOs), the young puncher from South Africa, will shoot for a changing of the guard in his local boxing scene by taking on IBO champion Lovemore Ndou (47-11-2, 31KOs) in September at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni. Golden Gloves Promotions head Rodney Berman announced the fight.
Mwelase has been making a name for himself on the domestic scene in South Africa with his power punching style, but he never fought anyone close to the level of Ndou. The veteran has faced the likes on Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Kermit Cintron and others during his long career.
