After the disappointment of being stopped three rounds into his first title challenge it was back to business as usual for Nawaphon Por Chokchai this afternoon. The Thai stopped Indonesian journeyman in Pathum Thani on a show that also featured Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in a sparring match.
Frans Damur has been in with some of Thailand's best fighters but his record outside of Indonesia was 0-11 going into Friday afternoon's fight. Nawaphon took his time in the early rounds, repeatedly piercing the journeyman's guard with jabs but not landing anything of note.
In the fourth Nawaphon started to follow up with straight right hands as his jabs continued to connect clean with the face of the Indonesian. The fifth round saw the Thai dancing around a bewildered Damur who didn't know where the punches were coming from.
By round six the fight had already become an ugly, one sided beating and Nawaphon opted to plant his feet and trade body shows with Damur, before landing another crashing one two combination. Mercifully the fight finished almost immediately in the seventh with the tough but overmatched journeyman crumpling to the canvass after two body shots.'
The win takes Nawaphon to 37-1 and sees him claim the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental super flyweight title on his 115 lbs debut. Damur drops to 14-16-2 and remains without a win on the road despite 12 attempts.
After the title fight there was an exhibition involving current WBC 115 lbs champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. He strapped on 16 oz gloves and head gear to face Fakamron Patawigongym in what was effectively a three round public sparring match.
Srisaket, who faces Roman Gonzalez for the second time in November, was declared the winner and had his hand raised. There were also legitimate victories for Pongsaklek Sithdabnij (12-4-1) and Saenganan Sithsaithong (17-0) who beat Petsa-oo Montanacountrylatsawai and Rungrit Sor Visetkit (0-2) respectively.
