Nathan Cleverly wants more fights and more challenges in America one month on from his fight of the year candidate against Andrzej Fonfara.

After a fight that broke an old light heavyweight record for punches thrown, (according to Compubox there were 2,425 combined), Cleverly is now near a 100% recovery since suffering a broken nose and a swollen ear, during the bout, which had to be cut open at a hospital for the blood to be drained.

Speaking to BoxingScene, the (29-3, 15 KOs) Cleverly said: “I spoke to (promoter) Eddie [Hearn] and he said it was a cracking fight which has gone down really well TV wise. They loved it.

“I performed well, had great feedback and had fantastic support. It was a meaningful fight and if there is one that comes up in the U.S again I’d be more than happy to do that. I’ve had a great experience every time I’ve fought there. They like my style, it’s fan-friendly. That goes down well. I’d be more than happy to go there and preferably if the opportunity came up again I’d like to fight in the States again.

“Eddie will obviously work on it and I believe he’s kind of said, provisionally, (in) January we’ll have a big fight. I want to be involved in meaningful fights."

And after such an enthralling contest between Fonfara and Cleverly that upon review certainly warrants a case for a rematch, the Welshman believes that a second contest between them will take place sooner or later.

“Me and Fonfara is going to have to happen again but whether it’s the next fight or whether he wins a world title and defends it against me that’s an option. But it is going to happen, I feel. Personally I think the Fonfara rematch would be great but I believe Fonfara will chase (WBC champion) [Adonis] Stevenson for the rematch."
