Nathan Cleverly says he is even more determined to make a statement on September 18 after the light-heavyweight division was blown wide apart on Saturday night.
Jean Pascal beat Chad Dawson on a technical decision in their world title clash in Canada, and in the process became Ring Magazine champion.
The result is an important one for Cleverly, who himself has ambitions on the world stage.
The undefeated 23-year-old takes on Karo Murat at the LG Arena, Birmingham, as part of Frank Warren's blockbuster 'Magnificent Seven' show next month, live on Sky Box Office.
At stake is the chance to box for the full WBO World Light-Heavyweight title.
"I followed Saturday's fight with interest," said current European champion Cleverly.
"Dawson has been the man to beat for the last couple of years, but now Pascal has taken that crown.
"I watched his fight Carl Froch a few years ago and he's a great fighter, but Froch showed he can be beaten.
"I've got respect for all the guys at the top of the light-heavyweight division, but I'm confident that this time next year I will be fighting them and I will be beating them.
"My fight against Murat on September 18 is very important. Lose and I am back to the drawing board, win and I am in a great position.
"Now (WBC champion) Pascal has the Ring Magazine title, he's the man I want to beat.
"I'm sure he will be tied up in rematch clauses with Dawson, but if I can win the WBO title, then a unification fight in 2011 would be fantastic."
