WBA "regular" super flyweight champion Nobuo Nashiro (13-1, 8 KOs), down in rounds one and six, came off the deck to stop Konosuke Tomiyama (18-2, 6 KOs) in the eight round at the Prefectural Gymasium in Osaka, Japan. For those wondering, yes another trinket holder for the WBA. Vic Darchinyan is the real champion, considered the WBA's "super champion" and also holds the WBC and IBF versions of the title.

After going down twice in the fight, he came back with a hard right to drop Tomiyama and put him away as the ref stopped the action.

"I never expected to fall down in the first round and it affected my fight. I was nervous," said Nashiro.

Tomiyama felt that after he hurt Nashiro, he pushed too hard for the knockout and left himself open to get knocked out. He took the loss hard and announced his retirement.

"I rushed too much to knock him out. My left guard slackened and I received too many rights," said Tomiyama. "I couldn't win, although I was in really good form. I'm going to hang up my gloves. I'm not suitable for boxing."
