Uzair Najib says fellow Sheffield fighter Muheeb Fazeldin can run but he can’t hide, when the pair go head-to-head for the Central Area super-bantamweight title on February 21.
The Steel City fighters clash at the city’s Octagon Centre, on the undercard to Ross Burkinshaw’s maiden Commonwealth bantamweight title defence against Leeds’ Terry Broadbent, and Uzair believes his aggressive style will be too much for Fazeldin.
“It’ll be a tough fight for me because he’s a typical Ingle-gym fighter, but that’s all,” stated Najib, who is undefeated at 5-0. “He’ll be tricky, but I’ll take over at some point in the fight.
“I’m a come-forward fighter, with an exciting style, and whether I stop him, or if it’s on points, I know I’ll definitely get the victory.”
Uzair, who has taken the last couple of months off from running his taxi business to concentrate on winning his first belt, says he will be in tip-top condition come fight-night.
Evenly-matched, unbeaten Muheeb has five wins and a draw on his ledger, the contest promises to be a feisty encounter with both men knowing the Central Area strap is the gateway to bigger fights.
“It’ll be a good fight for people to come and watch,” said Uzair, who won 22 of 33 amateur bouts. “I’ve never sparred him before, but I’ve watched him a couple of times and I don’t really rate him.
“It will mean everything to win this title though. I’m proper up for it. I’m training really hard and everything is bang on.”
“It’s a great 50-50 match up, and it could be the fight of the night,” explained promoter Dennis Hobson in his recent Sheffield Star column. “I wish I had a Central Area title on my mantelpiece, because it’s a great achievement.
“These two lads will give it their all because there’s nothing like winning a belt. It’s a great fight, a smashing show and it’s just a shame that it’s not on TV.”
