No official decision has been made, but trainer Nacho Beristain believes Juan Manuel Marquez, 38-years-old, could still continue his career with three or four more fights before retiring for good. The Mexican WBA/WBO lightweight champion is still undecided as to his future. Last Saturday night in Las Vegas, he lost a controversial twelve round majority decision to Manny Pacquiao. Top Rank is trying to make a fourth fight with Marquez (53-6-1, 39KOs).
Marquez refuses to stage another Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas. According to Nacho, there wouldn't be any obections to holding the fight at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
"He's able to continue if he chooses to do so. He is a great fighter and I want to convince him to continue in boxing. He's a lightweight champion and he can defend [his titles]. I think he can do at least three more fights, maybe four, and that includes Pacquiao. I like the idea of the [Pacquiao] fight being in Texas, where the influence of some people won't play a role [in the fight]," said Beristain to Sal Rodriguez.
