Prestigious manager and trainer Nacho Beristain says the rematch between his fighter, WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs), and tough Mexican countryman Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs), is worth a lot more money than their first meeting. Golden Boy Promotions is looking to stage the rematch on December 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined with a welterweight showdown between WBA champion Adrien Broner and Argentine puncher Marcos Maidana.

Last month, Gonzalez shocked the odds by stopping Mares in the first round of their title fight in Carson, California. There was a rematch clause, which Mares put in play.

"The fight becomes very interesting for two reasons: This is a fight between the world champion and former world champion. Mares lost nothing more than his undefeated record. He is still a great fighter and Jhonny proved that he is one of the greats. He finished the fight in a few minutes and shocked Mares' people, Golden Boy and Showtime. This fight is worth at least three or four times [the amount of the first fight]," Nacho said.

"Jhonny Gonzalez is willing to give Abner Mares his deserved rematch, which they announced for a tentative date in the month of December with Broner co-main event against Maidana on pay per view. The fight [between Broner and Maidana] will only draw general interest. The real sell if Jhonny against Mares and that's why it's worth three times more than the first."
