Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain, who is working with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., predicts an old school Mexican war on May 6th, when his fighter steps in the ring with country rival Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Nacho was hired by Chavez's team a month and a half ago, and hopes to have enough time to find the formula for victory. However, Nacho expects a very exciting contest that will resemble some of the past war involving Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez.
"I think it's going to be a war like Marquez-Barrera, Barrera-Morales... with two Mexicans you are guaranteeing a war," Beristáin told ESPN Deportes when asked about the way anticipates the HBO pay-per-view fight to play out.
For the last two weeks, Nacho has given Chavez Jr. a 47% chance of victory. When asked if Julio Cesar now has a 50 percent chance of victory, Nacho left the percentage at 47.
Nacho likes how training camp is going and the type of work that Chavez Jr. is putting in. The veteran trainer is being careful not to overtrain his fighter.
"I think we are at 47 percent. Julio is going to get up very well and it's going to be a great fight," Nacho predicted. "[Training camp is] going well, he's looked good. I like how he's boxing now. We do not demand too much because we know that the training is different from the fight, he's going to give everything there with his own light and we do not have to demand so much."
Regarding the fact that Canelo says he sees numerous possibilities of knocking Chavez out, Nacho believes that there is some arrogance in his corner and that can be dangerous.
"He has always been with his coaches. Although he started his career well, very humble, the boy is a restless boy. But pride always does a lot of damage," Nacho said.
