Cape Town, South Africa - Mzonke Fana captured the IBF super featherweight title on Friday night by earning a split decision over Malcolm Klassen.
Fana won 116-112 and 116-113 on two scorecards, while being beaten, 115-114, on the other.
The 33-year-old Fana (26-3) reached the title bout by winning an eliminator fight against Roberto David Arrieta in December. Fana's fight at the ultimate stage ended in a second-round knockout loss to Marco Antonio Barrera in April of 2005.
Klassen (19-4-2) lost his belt he won with a split decision over Gairy St. Clair last November.
