Caracas - The World Boxing Council has officially announced that Venezuelan fighter Mayerlin Rivas will have a rematch with Mexican Zulima Muñoz. The WBC's review committee decided that Rivas would become the official challenger to Muñoz, the WBC Youth champion, following the controversial majority decision at their June 9 fight in Mexico. Rivas scored three knockdowns in the fight but lost a point in the ninth round.
"It was reviewed and we decided to order a rematch by making the Venezuelan boxer the official challenger," said by telephone the agency's executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman.
"The statement has been notified to the executive committee, and we're just missing some papers to make it official, but there's no turning back."
Muñoz will get the choice of taking an optional and Rivas will get to meet the winner of that fight.
"If Muñoz decided to directly fight Rivas, there is no objection. The recommendation of a rematch is already done. "
