There is more controversy in the aftermath of the recent junior middleweight title clash between WBO world champion Jaime Munguia and mandatory challenger Dennis Hogan.
The contest, which took place last Saturday night in Mexico, saw Munguia win a controversial twelve round majority decision.
Many observers saw Hogan as the clear winner by at least 2-3 rounds, but the official judges had it for Munguia with scores of 116-112, 115-113 and a draw tally of 114-114.
In a stunning disclosure, there was a mishap with the local commission in Monterrey - and no post-fight drug testing had taken place.
Hogan and his handlers are protesting the scoring, and they are also protesting the lack of post-fight PED testing - and there are also claims that Hogan's cornermen were not provided with any chairs - but Munguia's handlers did have chairs in their corner.
WBO president Paco Valcárcel informed Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that his organization will not order a rematch based on the lack of post-fight drug testing.
On the other hand, the WBO appears to be taking the scoring complaint seriously and plan to investigate the matter by having a independent panel of judges review the fight and score the contest - to see if their scorecards are in line with the final tallies of the judges who worked the fight.
“There was supposed to be testing. But the lab didn’t show up," Valcarcel said.
“We have to presume the guy [Munguia] was clean. He has no history of any issues. The testing should have been done, but the lab didn’t show up, so there was nothing that could be done.”
Hogan provided a statement to Yahoo Sports. He was stunned when nobody showed up to his dressing room to conduct a post-fight drug test.
“How can there be no drug testing after a world title fight?” Hogan said.
“This is 2019. I was waiting in the dressing room for one hour after the fight for the commission to come and check me and nobody turned up. This only adds more questions to what took place on Saturday night. Why is the promoter standing right behind a WBO supervisor during the fight and communicating with the corner? [Fight promoter] Fernando Beltrán offered me the rematch immediately. He said I deserve it. I want my rematch. I won that title.”
