The recent string of boxers entering the world of politics continues. Former super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine of Australia, is set to run for Parliament as an independent at the state election in March.

It was reported that Mundine will contest the inner-city seat of Marrickville, which is held by Education Minister Carmel Tebbutt. Tebbutt is rated the most popular minister in the Iemma Government.

It appears that Mundine's move from the boxing ring to the political front has been motivated by a clash of wills within Redfern's Aboriginal community over the establishment of a cultural and training centre in memory of Pemulwuy, a legendary Aboriginal warrior from the early 19th century.
