Former champion Anthony Mundine is battling a hip injury, but refuses to postpone his February 11 bout with fellow Aussie Shannan Taylor. The fight is set to take place at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, Australia. The vacant WBA international middleweight title is on the line. Mundine, should he beat Taylor, expects to fight WBA champion Felix Sturm in July.
Mundine had a bad limp as a he walked and talked with media members during a press conference over the weekend. He told reporters that his injury will force him to withdraw from the fight.
"It's been hampering me for the last year or so. I'm not going to use that as an excuse. I can still move around the ring. I can still do the things that I want to do. This hampers me a little bit when I go in certain positions or I sit down too long. 'm not going to complain and talk about my hip. I mean, most of my fights I've fought with injuries," Mundine told ABC News .
