Anthony Mundine has stated that his February 2, 2005 rematch with Manny Siaca at the Newscastle Entertainment Centre will go forward regardless of injury. Siaca defeated Mundine last May by way of an upset split decision for Mundine's WBA super middleweight title.
Mundine suffered a cut to his left eye while training and his father and trainer Tony, the cut required three stitches. It was initially thought that the fight would be postponed in order to give Mundine's eye the proper time to heal.
"I don't get cut and my motto in the ring is I don't need a cut man because I don't get cut, man," Mundine told Channel 10 in Australia.
"We were doing a bit of defensive work and he (dad) came up with an uppercut and caught me just under the eyebrow. I have never been cut in a fight, I have never been cut in the gym and my old man cuts me. It's 1-0."
"If I lose that could be the end of my career. It's not just to get redemption. I want to beat every man that beats me. Siaca has given me an opportunity to fight him again."
"This time I want to even the score."
