Top rated contender Muhammad Waseem is considering the possibility of switching to super flyweight from flyweight, because he's draining himself too much in order to make the flyweight limit of 112-pounds.
“I think I should switch over to super flyweight because at flyweight I feel weakness,” Waseem told ‘The News’ from Islamabad on Tuesday.
Waseem is currently ranked at number 5 under the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at flyweight.
The boxer is being guided by management agency MTK Global.
Last year, Waseem (10-1, 7 KOs) lost a close twelve round decision to IBF world champion Moruti Mthalane.
This year he's bounced back with two wins in a row, including a decision over former world champion Ganigan Lopez back on November 22.
Waseem plans to test the waters at super flyweight before making a final decision regarding a move to 115-pounds.
“I have not yet discussed this matter with my coach and management. After returning to Glasgow I will discuss this with them before making a final decision,” Waseem said.
“I will play a bout in super flyweight and then the things will get settled. These things are not yet decided. I have applied for Spain’s visa and in a few days I will get that which will enable me to proceed to Glasgow. As I want to go to Spain for one-month training so I needed this visa,” Waseem said.
