According to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, a rematch between Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley is probably not the next fight for Cotto, tentative for June 13. Should Cotto get past Michael Jennings on Saturday, Arum wants to get him the biggest money fight possible. With Mosley almost sure to make a demand of at least 50% or more of the split - he is not at the top of the list of possible opponents for Cotto's next fight.
Before talks even begin there are issues coming up. The fight, also tentative for New York's Madison Square Garden, is not the target of choice for Mosley. Shane has already put on the record that he wants the rematch to take place on the West Coast, and not in New York, where he lost a close decision to Cotto in 2007.
Some of the possible options for Cotto include:
Kermit Cintron - An all-Puerto Rican clash on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade
Andre Berto - Unification bout with the WBC champion
Joshua Clottey - Unification bout with the IBF champion. Easy to make since Clottey and Cotto are both with Top Rank.
If Cotto pushes his return up a few months, it could open up the door for other possible opponents like Paul Williams or the winner/loser of Pacquiao-Hatton in May.
