According to Yoel Judah, father and trainer of Zab Judah, the fight with Shane Mosley, previously scheduled for May 31 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, will not be rescheduled.
As reported yesterday, Judah slipped in the shower and injured his right arm, resulting in numerous cuts that required 50-stiches. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that he was trying to reschedule the fight to a later date. Yoel told The Fight Network that Jin Mosley, wife and manager of Shane, turned the fight down and said she has no interest in rescheduling the fight.
After the fight was cancelled, Yoel left his son's Las Vegas training camp and flew out to Las Vegas to meet with Golden Boy in an effort to save the fight. Yoel claims that HBO had an open date in July and tried, with the help of Golden Boy, to put the fight together, but Jin held her stance and turned Judah down.
“We still wanted the fight, but she didn’t want to allow for Shane to fight Zab,” Yoel Judah told The Fight Network. “Once Zab is healed we will get right back into training and will stay fit for the next opportunity. Golden Boy promotions and HBO have been great and did everything to reschedule the fight, but Jin turned it down."
There are rumors in the boxing circles that Mosley might target Ricardo Mayorga instead. Mayorga has been sitting on the sidelines since moving up to a catch-weight of 166 to win a decision over Fernando Vargas last November. Mayorga, who wants to return to the welterweight division, has expressed a lot of interest over the years to fight Mosley.
