LAS VEGAS – Vowing to give his opponent “a beating over Tweeting,” Hall-of-Fame boxer “Sugar” Shane Mosley will return to the ring and fight Nicaraguan fighter Ricardo Mayorga on August 29 in Los Angeles.

Mayorga has frequently posted insulting comments about Mosley on his Twitter account over the past several months, including claims he will make Mosley wash his dishes and can beat the legendary champion in two rounds, and has repeatedly challenged Mosley to a rematch to avenge his loss in 2008 to the legendary welterweight champion.

The event will also be highlighted by a fight between Mosley’s son Shane Mosley, Jr., and an opponent to be named soon, marking the first time in boxing history a father and son have fought on the same card.  In addition to that milestone, Mosley and his son have predicted they will make history by being the first father and son to knock out their opponents on the same card.

Mosley has repeatedly told Mayorga to “STFU” on social media and said he is happy to publicly accept Mayorga’s challenge.   The ongoing Twitter feud recently gave Mosley little time to enjoy the attention his son was getting at the pre-fight press conference for Shane Mosley Jr.’s BKB fight at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and motivated Mosley to accept Mayorga’s challenge.

"If there’s anybody that needs his ass kicked, it’s him!" Mosley said. "The time for hiding his ass on social media is over. I'm ready to beat him just like I did last time.  Mayorga is a beer-swilling, butt-smoking *sshole and I’ll fight him as soon as you can stumble into the ring.  I’ll beat him down again.”

Mosley wasn't done calling out Mayorga. “This guy's so disrespectful: writing stupid messages on Twitter because he wants people to think that he deserves respect he has not earned," Mosley said.   “He should shut the f*** up and now he’s gonna pay the price in the ring.”

“I’m gonna give him a beating for his Tweeting,” Mosley said.

Mosley, who fought Mayorga on July 18, 2008, in Carson, California, winning by decision after consistently pounding Mayorga through 12 rounds, has held world titles in three weight divisions, IBF lightweight title, Lineal, WBC, WBA (Super) welterweight titles, and Lineal, WBC, WBA (Super), and The Ring magazine's light-middleweight titles and was named Ring magazine's pound for pound best fighter in the world in 2000 and 2001.  Mosley has defeated some of the biggest names in boxing including Oscar De La Hoya (twice), Antonio Margarito, and Fernando Vargas, among others. He has also battled world-renowned boxing champions Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. In 1998 Boxing Writers Association of America selected him as "Fighter of the Year" and he was given the same honor from the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000. Mosley officially announced his retirement in 2013.

Venue and ticket sales information will be announced soon.
